Week 10 Update

Assembly

Well done to Room 5 who hosted this week’s assembly. The students presented the importance of being positive and giving everything 100% effort. Today we were also fortunate to hear from actor Ian Toyne, who spoke to our students as part of the Books In Homes Program. Ian spoke of the importance of believing in yourself and how this has the power to change your life for the better. This was a fantastic message that tied in well with the Room 5 Assembly. Big thank you to The Books In Homes Program and their generous sponsors Ausenco. Through their ongoing support, we were able to provide all students in Pre-Primary and all of our IEC classes with three books to enjoy over the holidays.

Free Dress Day

Reminder that tomorrow, Thursday 6 April is pupil free dress day. For a gold coin donation, students may wear their favourite clothes. All money raised will go to the school P&C Committee.

School Community Survey

Dianella Primary College is conducting a Community Survey as way to gain an understanding of our current school culture. The short survey will help us to understand areas where we are performing well and areas for further development. There are two types of responses you are able to provide; rating scale and open text comment. We are seeking community responses for the 2022 school year (as per the Module headings) and also for the current school year.

The survey is completely confidential. You do not need to provide your name and we will not be able to identify you individually.

If you would prefer, you may also collect a hard copy of the survey from the front office to complete.

I encourage as many families as possible to complete the survey, to provide us with a broad idea of community attitude.

Complete the survey via this link; https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/DianellaPrimaryCollege2023

Thank you for your support and time in advance for completing the survey.

Parents and Citizens Annual General Meeting

On Monday Evening we held our annual P&C AGM. The AGM is the time when the current executive committee stands down and we seek elections for the upcoming year. Over the past 12 months we have struggled to find widespread parental support for the P&C and we have operated without a president. Again, at our AGM we only had a small number of parents in attendance, which is disappointing for the school and the parents who do volunteer their time. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing executive committee for their support of our school: Alex-Ann who took on the role as vice president, Sana and Sasha who took on the role of secretary and Maxine and Shelley who took on the role of treasurer. Even though there was a small number of parents in attendance, we were able to fill the 4 executive committee roles for 2023. Thank you to the following parents who have volunteered to support the school:

Megan - President

Elaine - Vice President

Montana - Treasurer

Sasha - Secretary

As a school, we rely on the ongoing support and viability of the P&C to be able to do any fundraising. Without parental support, the P&C will not continue, we will not be able to do any fundraising for students or outside organisations or have the ability to apply for any government grants. We would love to have your support with our P&C Committee - please follow the link below to find out more about the role of the P&C and to sign up for the regular newsletter.

Harmony Day Lunch

To celebrate Harmony Day this year we will be holding a whole school celebration on Thursday 27 April. The day will involve students from PP-Yr6 completing various cultural activities throughout the day, culminating in a shared lunch from 1pm. Parents and extended family are welcome to join us for lunch from 1pm in the undercover area. We are asking for families to donate a traditional dish from their culture to share on the day.
Easter

As we approach the school holidays, I would like to wish all of our families a safe and relaxing holiday break. To all of those families that celebrate Easter, on behalf of all of the staff at Dianella Primary College we wish you a Happy Easter.

Eid Mubarak

To all of our Islamic families who are currently recognising Ramadan, I would like to wish you all Eid Mubarak. Eid is celebrated at the end of Ramadan and will this year fall during our school holidays. I hope that all of our families have a blessed Eid and you enjoy the time celebrating with family and friends.

ANZAC Ceremony

Dianella Education Precinct will commemorate ANZAC day of Monday 24 April. Students from Years 1-6, will join Dianella Secondary College and Dianella Secondary College Education Support Centre to commemorate the day. Staff and students will participate in an outdoor ceremony starting at 9am on the grassed quadrangle at Dianella Secondary College. As we will be sitting outside, students are reminded to bring a hat for the ceremony. Parents are welcome to join us on the day for the ceremony.

Covid

Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing a spike in Covid 19 cases throughout the school community (I am currently one of these cases). As a community we are asking families to be vigilant in this area and for students to please stay at home if they are feeling unwell and to conduct a RAT test if they are experiencing Covid symptoms. The school has free RAT tests available for any families that would like to collect some from the front office.

Return to School

Students will return to school on Monday 24 April after the school holidays. Tuesday 25 April is a public holiday to commemorate ANZAC day, there will be no school on this date.
