Week 5 Update

Although a short week due to the public holiday , it has again been a very hectic week at school.

Our student councilors ran our second whole school assembly and are clearly demonstrating their increased confidence with public speaking. Well done to all of our award winners who are listed below.

On Entry

Every year all students in Pre Primary complete a one on one On Entry test with their classroom teacher. The test gives our PP teachers an idea of each child’s skills in literacy and numeracy and how to cater for their individual needs. Parents will receive this report in the next couple of weeks. If you have any questions about the test, please speak to either Ms Wellstead or Mrs Corney in the Pre Primary classes.

Breakfast Club

Each Wednesday we are offering the students and families if they would like to join in our breakfast club program. Izzy our school chaplain and Mr Boundry will assisting students to prepare a breakfast and clean up after themselves. Please feel free to either drop in with your children or remind them to come along to The Hive (old canteen in the hall) from 8.00 am each Wednesday morning. Breakfast will finish by 8.40 am as this is when students are required in class. Milos have moved to Monday’s with cheesies still being offered with Izzy on a Friday.

Attendance/Lateness

Student’s arriving at school late is continuing to be an issue and we ask that all parents support us in ensuring students arrive at school on time each day. Students arriving after the bell not only interrupts the lesson, but also puts students behind as they are missing out on lesson starts.

Lessons start:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 8.40 am

Thursday 9.00 am

Unless unwell, students are required to attend school each day, if your child is away due to illness, please phone the front office on 9263 5100 or text 0437 418 711 to let the school know.

Outdoor Movie Night

Final reminder for upcoming P&C organised free family movie night on Friday 26 March. This is a ticketed event for DPC students and families only. I am also pleased to announce that the P&C has organised a gate prize for one lucky family who attends. Please notify the office via note or text 0437 418 711 to secure your tickets.

P&C Free Dress Day

The P&C will be holding a free dress day for students (and staff) this coming Tuesday 9 March. For a gold coin donation, students can go uniform free for the day. Help support your P&C by joining in, money will be collected in classrooms.

Harmony Week

From 15 March to the 19 March Dianella Primary College will be celebrating Harmony Week. Across the week students will be participating in a range of different activities to celebrate our diverse multicultural backgrounds. The first activity will be a national dress day, with students encouraged to wear their national dress or costume on Monday 15 March.

Students will also be offered the opportunity (with parent permission) to receive a non-permanet Henna tattoo. We are asking for help with this and if you are able to help with these please see details below.

Henna Help

As a part of our Harmony Week celebrations, along with Dianella Secondary College and Dianella Secondary College Education Support Centre students will be participating in various Harmony week activities. One of these activities will be for students to receive natural ingredient Henna tattoos. We are looking for any experienced (or just willing to give it a go) parents to help with the Henna tattooing.

Times and dates will be: Monday 15 March, Tuesday 16 March, Wednesday 17 March and Friday 19 March between 1 -2 pm.If you are able to help out on any of these days can you please either contact the school office on 9263 5100 or email our Harmony week coordinator Mrs Goodall letting her know when you are available.

All materials will be supplied.

School Open Night

As you will be aware we will be holding our annual school open night on Tuesday 30 March. We had previously advertised that the open night would be from 5 - 6.30 pm with the junior student dance performance to finish off. Due to concerns about not all students being able to attend at this time we have decided to move the dance performance to 2.00- 3.00 pm in the undercover area, with classrooms being open for parents from 3 pm. I do apologise for this change, however we are mindful of ensuring all students are presented with the opportunity to perform their newly acquired dance skills.

Kind regards

Anthony
