Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Concern and anxiety around the COVID-19 virus continues to increase. Closed businesses, finding groceries, ongoing employment and paying bills are all contributing to these concerns. We can now add in school closures and all parents suddenly being required to become teachers overnight! Don’t stress, you have already been your child’s teacher their whole life. You will be asked to do additional activities at home with your children and this will possibly add to the day to day stresses you face. As a school we will provide both physical and digital resources to assist parents with learning at home. Our web page has numerous resources and teachers will continue to add new activities.Physical resources will be available to be collected from school soon or we will post out to families. However, the most valuable thing you can do with your child is to spend time with them and reassure them. Set a routine that works for you, you do not need to replicate the school day at home. If you don’t complete all activities or some days it is just too hard, don’t worry. Do what you can.

Simple everyday activities are also teaching points;

  • read with your child and ask them questions about what you have or will read.

  • cook, make biscuits or cakes, or get them to help make dinner. Reading recipes and following instructions are all essential skills.

  • write a letter or an email to a friend or relative. This will be greatly appreciated by the receiver.

  • make something. Use boxes, toilet rolls or bottle top lids to build something. Get creative.

  • play Lego or board games together.

  • grow something in the garden (or just do some gardening together).

  • play a game together, kick the soccer ball, play catch or chasey around the yard or hide and seek in the house.

  • paint a picture together, or do a drawing.

  • do a scavenger hunt in the garden.

  • use your imagination, there will be hundreds of things you can do together.

By continuing to parent and spending time with your children, they will continue to learn.

Stay safe and follow government directives about washing hands and social distancing. I look forward to seeing everyone when we return to normal schooling. It will come around sooner than you think.
