Week 4 Update

Food Celebration

Wow - what an amazing turnout of families and food we had yesterday for our second annual Food Celebration. There was a massive variety of food from around the world for our students, teachers and families to enjoy. Our student cooking competition was very well supported, congratulations to our winners listed below. After the lunch, students then had the opportunity to participate in a cooking competition, with the winning year group being our Kindy class, who made amazing Super Power Granola Bites. All of the recipes from the cooking competition are available on the P&C blog page, not only are they very tasty, but also very healthy. NAIDOC

Today as a school precinct, we celebrated NAIDOC day. To start proceedings we had a whole precinct assembly, with Shaun Nannup talking to the students about the importance of being a good friend and the wonders of nature and how we as a community can help to Heal Country. Mr Boundry then led our Aboriginal students in traditional dances, where the students performed beautifully with courage and poise. Finally our amazing school choir performed the Wandjoo song. Well done to all students who perform,ed at the assembly, there was a massive audience and you can be very proud of your efforts. Special m,mention to Mr Boundry for his amazing sand mural, it was very creative.

After the assembly, students then had the opportunity to participate in a range of different activities based around the NAIDOC week theme of Heal Country. Students learnt about rescued black cockatoos, created an inspired by Aboriginal art mural, listened to dream time stories, tasted traditional Aboriginal food and learnt some of the dances from the Assembly. Massive thank you to Mrs Goodall and Mr Boundry for coordinating, your efforts were certainly appreciated and the day was a huge success. .

Room 15 & Kindy Assemblies

This week we held 3 Assemblies, with both of Kindy classes hosting their first ever assembly and Room 15 holding our normal whole school assembly. Although a little shy, the Kindy students did an outstanding jo confidently singing, dancing and talking on the Micro phone.

Our Yr 3’s from Room 15 showcased not only their Noongar language skills, but also their Auslan signing. The students have been studying Noongar each week with Mr Boundry and they presented the Wanjoo song with accompanying Auslan translations. Well done Room 15 and congratulations to all of our Honour Certificate winners who were recognised for their ongoing display of our school values. See full list of students below.

Swimming

Next Monday, 8 November we will be starting out school swimming lessons. Students will need to wear their bathers under their school uniform and bring the following labelled items:

  • towel, hat, plastic bag for wet clothes, goggles if needed

  • students may wear thongs to school and the pool, please bring normal school shoes to change into.

The first swimming bus will depart school at 8.40 am, so it is essential that students arrive at school on time. We will not be waiting for students who are late to school.
