Week 5 Update

Connect

During the week you would have received a letter advising you about our school moving towards using Connect as an online communication tool. Connect is an Education Department supported online tool that will give you access to important communication and keep you informed about what your child is doing in class.

It will also provide an opportunity for communication and to continue learning in case we are forced to return to an online environment in the future.

If you have supplied the school with your email address, you will have received an email today asking you to log on and Connect. If you did not receive this communication please email us at dianellapc@education.wa.edu.au with your child's name in the subject area. We will then be able to update our records to include your new email address for Connect notifications.

National Simultaneous Story Time

On Wednesday all of our junior students participated in the Australian National Simultaneous Story Time, the activity encourages all students to sit down and enjoy a chosen book at the same time all around Australia. This years book was Give Me Some Space, and I certainly enjoyed getting into the spirit of the story as I read it to the students, thanks Mrs Whisson for creating my costume! . Students also had the opportunity back in class to listen to the story being read from space, with Shannon Walker, an astronaut on the international space station reading the book as well. See the link below if you would like to share this with your child at home (she is a much more credible astronaut that what I made!).

Read-a-thon

As you would be aware, the P&C is currently running a school Read-a-thon. Students are being asked to approach friends and family to sponsor them to read as many books as they can (or read with mum and dad if they are not yet reading independently, or read as many chapters of their novel as possible for older students) over a two week period - starting on Monday 24 May. Students will then bring in their sponsorship money and completed forms by Tuesday 8 June to go into the draw to win one of 4 prizes. Please note: Prizes will not be awarded for most money raised, we are more focused on students improving and developing their reading habits than raising money. All money raised by the P&C will be going towards our new chicken coup that we are hoping to build. Happy reading.

Outdoor Classroom Day

On Thursday students participated in the national outdoor classroom day. The day encourages classes to take their learning outside to make better use of the natural environment as a learning tool. On the day all of our classes teamed up with their buddy classes, to enjoy different learning environments and varied activities in our outdoor areas. See photos below of some of the activities.

School Disco

Have you been enjoying the music that our year 6 students have been playing each morning on the veranda? They are certainly getting into the swing of drumming up enthusiasm for the school disco. Tickets are on sale each morning (just follow your ears) for both the senior and junior disco’s that will be held next Thursday 27 May. Tickets are $5 each and on the night there will be food and drink items for sale. All money raised is going towards the year 6 camp. Parents are welcome to stay if they would like for either disco. On the night all students will need to be collected from the hall by an adult, students will not be allowed to leave by themselves.

School Development Day

Reminder to all of our families that our Term 2 school development day will be on Friday 4 June. This is an opportunity for staff to get together with colleagues from surrounding school for professional development. Students do not attend school on this day and will return to school on Tuesday 8 June, after the WA Day public holiday.
