Week 3 Update

Assembly

Last week our Year 5 students hosted our whole school assembly. The students from Rooms 2 and 3 wrote their own fire safety wrap that they sang to their own unique beat - the bouncing of basketballs. Very entertaining and a great message. Congratulations to all of our students who were recognised with an Honour Certificate at the assembly, please see the full list below.

Aussie of the Month

Congratulations to Muntather who was awarded our Aussie of the Month award for October. Munt was nominated by Mrs Ryan for always showing responsibility and supporting his classmates with their learning. Well done Munt!

Congratulations to Loud Shirt Day

Last Friday, the 21 October we participated in Loud Shirt Day. The day is an opportunity for schools or organisations to raise money to support the Telethon Speech and Hearing Centre for their research into supporting students who suffer from hearing loss. This was a great opportunity for Dianella Primary College to show support for this great initiative, as we have a number of students who do have hearing impairments. Thank you to al of those staff and students who wore their loudest shirt or outfit and well done on raising $347.40 for the cause. Well done!

School Photos

Reminder to all parents that our school photos will be taking place either tomorrow or Friday (please see timetable below for classroom days/times). Students have been provided with an individual photo envelope that they will need to bring to school if they are purchasing photos or not. Please ensure your child is dressed in school uniform for the photos.

Pre-Primary Playground

We have had some very excited pre-primary students over the past week who have finally been able to use their new playground. Throughout the building process, the students took a keen interest in the developments and couldn’t wait to get out into the playground and test the new equipment. It is a fantastic design that allows the students to use their imagination on our bridge or in the tee-pee as well las building their gross motor skills, coordination and upper body strength on the equipment. It is with thanks to our local member for Morley, Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson, who facilitated state government funding to enable the new playground build. Thank you!

Academic Extension Programs

If your child is in Yr 5 and demonstrates academic excellence, you are encouraged to explore the opportunities for Secondary School Gifted and Talented programs. There is a number of different options offered by the Education Department for exceptionally able students to study in learning environments that provide an enriched curriculum. Please follow the link below to find out more about the programs and how to apply. The applications are for students currently in Year 5 who will be attending Secondary School in 2024.

World Teachers Day

This Friday, 28 October is World Teachers day. It is a day celebrated all over Australia as a chance to recognise and thank our hard working and dedicated teachers for all of their efforts. We know that teachers play an important role in the community and are an integral part of children’s lives. We are very fortunate at Dianella to have very dedicated and hard working staff who go above and beyond for their students at all times. It would certainly be appreciated if parents and students took the opportunity to thank their teachers on Friday - feel free to send them an email or have students make a card.

Kind Regards

Anthony Middleton
