Week 6 Update

Swimming

After two weeks of swimming lessons, we will be returning to our normal classroom timetable this week. Throughout the fortnight of lessons, it was a real credit to the students whose behaviour was exceptional at all times. Swimming and school staff both commented on how well our students listened and followed instructions whilst on the way to and from the pool and in the water. Well done.

I know that there was a number of students who were disappointed in not passing their swimming levels. Although upsetting, it is essential that students learn and practice the fundamental water skills to be able to progress through the levels. It is important that students practice their skills on a regular and consistent basis. If students only swim or practice the skills during the two weeks of lessons, it will be very difficult for them to progress. If your child did not pass their level, I would encourage you to look carefully at the certificate and see what they need to practice and master. Next time you are at the beach or the pool, take the time to practice these skills. If the next time they try the skill again is at our next set of swimming lessons, next year, it may very well be difficult to master. There is also Vacswim lessons available during the school holidays. VacSwim - Department of Education

Reports

As we are approaching the end of the year, teachers have been bust preparing your child’s school reports. School reports will be available online, on the Connect platform from Friday 10 Dec, with hard copy reports being sent home on Wednesday 15 December. We are deliberately doing this as a way to encourage parents to log on and access the Connect platform. If you haven’t already done so, I would encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

If you require further details on how to access Connect, please follow the links below. It is essential that the school has your correct email address, if this needs to be updated, please email dianella.pc@education.wa.edu.au

Year 5 Fun Day

As a fund raising activity for Year 6 Camp next year, the current Year 5 students will be running a Fair Day this Friday, 26 November. On the day students will have the opportunity to participate in various fun activities, designed by the Year 5’s to enable them to raise funds for the camp. Activities will include:

  • Cup Pong

  • Beat the Goaly

  • Coin Toss

  • Gone Fishing

  • Ducks in a Pond

On the day there will also be a craft stall (the students have been busy making items), second hand books and toys for sale as well as a cake stall. On the day students are asked to bring in a couple of dollars to possibly win some great prizes whilst helping to raise funds for the Year 6 camp.

Dianella Secondary College

Reminder for those students who will be attending Dianella Secondary College next year, your orientation day will be this Thursday 25 November. Parents of Year 6 students who have not completed their enrollment must ensure that this is completed prior to this day for child to be able to attend. The transition day is an excellent opportunity for students to become familiar with Secondary College and I encourage all parents to ensure their child attends.

Birthday’s
I know that from time to time, parents like to recognise their child’s birthday by bringing in a cake or at times lolly bags for the other students in the class. Whilst I am happy for this to occur, I would ask that parents are mindful of what they bring in to the class to share. We have a number of students with food allergies and it is essential that we are not providing items of food that contain nuts. If in doubt, please don’t include. One of the easiest ways to recognise a birthday is to send in some small cupcakes. This is often a cheaper and safer option, and easier for the teacher to distribute. Thank you for your support in this matter.
