Week 8 Update

Assembly

Well done to our Room 3 students who conducted this weeks school assembly. As a part of their assembly, the students adapted a story to retell the plight of over worked cows. Through their play the students not only gave a great insight into the importance of dairy, but also clearly demonstrated their acting and public speaking skills. Well done Rm 3 and Ms Adams, your assembly was very mooving! Well done to our Honour Certificate winners, who were recognised for their ongoing display of our school values.

Read-a-thon

Thank you to all of our families who participated in our recent P&C Read-a-thon. As a school we raised well over $700 for the P&C that will go towards the building of our school chicken coop. As an incentive to join in and read, the P&C gave out 5 $20 gift vouchers kindly donated by Mirrabooka Square.

Well done to our reading stars:

Laila - Kindy, Ivan - IEC , Eddie - PP, Tyler - Yr 3, Ka Mun - Yr 5

Sponsorship forms and any money collected can still be returned to the front office.

Aussies of the Month

Congratulations to Anastasia and Kristal who have both been recognised for their efforts to the environment and been named as our Aussies of the month for June. The girls have shown initiative to make sure that all eligible containers for change containers, are collected, rather than thrown out. The girls take out our collection containers every lunch time, collect containers that have been thoughtlessly left lying around and even collect containers that have accidentally been thrown in the rubbish . Your commitment to the environment and reducing our contribution to landfill is amazing girls, great work!

STEM Activities

I was very impressed to see our Yr 4 students tackling a STEM challenge this week. Students have identified the need t reduce the amount of rubbish we produce and in particular opportunities to reduce the use of single use plastics, such as cling wrap. Connecting in with our whole school sustainability focus, students from Rm’s 5 & 6 made bee’s wax wraps. The wraps that will be coming home after our STEM showcase can be used over and over again in place of cling wrap. Very impressive work.

Yr 4 Excursion

It has been a busy week for our Yr 4’s, not only have they been busy making Bee’s Wax Wraps, they also found time to get down to Fremantle for an excursion to the prison. As part of the curriculum for Year 4 ,the students have been learning about early European settlement and history of WA. Learning about the history of the prison and some of its early residents gave the students a great insight into what life was like back in the early 1800’s and the reasons behind some of our convicts being sent to WA. After studying the story of WA bush ranger, Moondyne Joe, a well known resident of the prison, the students now have a greater insight into his history as well.
