Week 4 Update

Assembly

This week our Year 6 students from Room 1 hosted our school assembly. The students did a great job entertaining the audience with a humorous skit about the benefits of having an organised classroom. I think we may have found a new teacher for the future in Krystal! Congratulations to all of our Honour Certificate winners who were recognised at the assembly for their ongoing display of our school values. Please see the full list of students below.

Faction Captains

Today we held our 2023 Faction Captain elections. Students were given the opportunity to present a short speech on why they would make a great leader for the school. Students from Years 3-6 from each Faction then chose one boy and one girl to lead their faction in 2023. Congratulations to the following students on their election,

Emerald: Lucy and Tony

Ruby: Maleke and Emmanuela

Saphire: Tahlia and Dylan

P&C Meeting

Next Thursday, 2nd March we will be holding our first P&C meeting of the year. We are looking for parents and carers to come along and support our school through the P&C.

What and who is the P&C? The P&C is a group of parents and carers who play an essential role providing additional support to our students, your children, through the organisation of community events and fundraising initiatives. They meet once per term to organise these events. In 2023 there is a number of events already organised and they would love your support to make these initiatives as successful as possible. If you can spare a few hours of your time throughout the year to support your child, we would love to see at the meeting.

Parking

Aaagh! It is happening again!

Parking is becoming an issue at the end of each school day. We are consistently having parents putting students at risk and this needs to stop. Parking on footpaths, double parking behind parked cars, parking in our bus bays or on the bus road into and out of the school, parking in the staff car park, and stopping in the middle of the road to drop off and collect are all illegal acts and happening on a daily basis. It is only a matter of time before someone is injured. As a school we are constantly teaching students to be responsible and make positive choices. Yet each day, we are seeing parents modelling irresponsible and dangerous behaviour. This is reinforcing a message that as long as I am not inconvenienced, it is ok to do whatever I want. Is this really the message that you want to send to your children?

There is multiple simple solutions to this issue!

There is an abundance of street parking available on Cobham and Osborne Rds that is not being used- a short walk is not a big inconvenience over child safety.

Parents of older children are welcome to use the kiss and drive at the top of Laythorne Street.

Older students who live close by could walk, ride or skoot to school. This is a great way to start developing independence.

Parents of younger children who live close by can walk, ride or skoot to school with their children. Excellent way to get some incidental exercise and save money on fuel.

If you delay picking your child up by 10 min. there is always close parks available at the front of the school or in Wewak Crt.

The only way that we are going to solve this issue is by parents making positive choices. The photos below sent by a parent are examples of how inconsiderate parking is putting our students, your children at risk!
