Attendance
At Dianella Primary College we aim to maintain student attendance levels above 95%.
Parents – It is a parent’s responsibility to ensure their children arrive at school on time every day, prepared for the school day, unless unwell.
Students – It is the student’s responsibility to ensure they are in their classroom, ready to learn, by the 8:50am siren, every day.
Teachers – It is the teacher’s responsibility to mark attendance promptly and accurately each morning and afternoon. Teachers will contact parents/carers if students are regularly late or absent from school. If student attendance falls below 80% they will be deemed ‘At Educational Risk’ and teachers will refer the student to Administration for attendance intervention.
Administration – Administration, working with classroom teachers, support staff and external agencies, are responsible for addressing all attendance that falls below 80%.
Good Standing
Rationale
In accordance with the Department of Education’s Student Behaviour in Public Schools policy, Dianella Primary College has a Good Standing Policy, which supports the behaviour management of all students across the school.
Policy
Learning is enhanced in an environment where students feel safe, welcome and included. Our Good Standing Policy allows us to provide acknowledgement for students who consistently make positive choices and demonstrate the school values. It is the responsibility of each student to maintain their Good Standing. This policy emphasises the importance of students taking responsibility for the choices they make on a daily basis, which impact academically and socially on themselves and others.
Good Standing
Good Standing is a status all Dianella Primary College students are granted at the start of each term. Students with Good Standing are eligible to participate in school activities.
Behaviour
WA Positive Behaviour Support (WAPBS) is a positive school-wide approach to behaviour management. It is a whole-school framework for implementing a continuum of evidence-based interventions to achieve academically and behaviourally important outcomes for all students. It is a proactive approach in which expected behaviours are explicitly taught to meet areas of need determined by data collected within the school.
In a WAPBS school, behaviour is viewed as another teachable aspect of the school curriculum. WAPBS schools offer students a supportive environment with consistent behavioural expectations where positive behaviour is part of the school’s explicit teaching and learning program.
Research has shown effective implementation of WAPBS can achieve:
- An increase in attendance.
- Students viewing school as a positive and calm environment.
- Teachers reporting a positive and calm environment and relationship with students.
- A reduction in the proportion and number of behavioural disruptions.
- An increase in academic performance.
